1.A.P.J. Abdul Kalam was born on 15 October 1931 and raised in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu.

2. He was an Indian scientist who served as the 11th President of India from 2002 to 2007.

3.He came from a poor background, he distributed newspapers to financially contribute to his father's income.
4. He spent the four decades as a scientist and science administrator, mainly at the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).

5. He thus came to be known as the Missile Man of India for his work on the development of ballistic missile and launch vehicle technology.

6. He has received several prestigious awards, including the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honour.

7.His 79th birthday was recognised as World Student's Day by United Nations.

8. In 2005, Switzerland declared 26 May as science day to commemorate Kalam's visit in the country.

9.Wings of Fire(1999) is an autobiography of A P J Abdul Kalam.

10.He passed away at Bethany Hospital, Shillong due to heart failure after having collapsed during a lecture he was giving at IIM Shillong.
